What is mental toughness?

We hear mind training and mental toughness being thrown around nowadays, but what is it?

Mental toughness is associated with performance and pressure.  Everybody has a peak in performance related to a certain level of stress.  When the level of stress increases past this point, performance then falters. 

Developing mental toughness means increasing your stress resistance to reach a higher level of performance.
