Top 3 tips to improve your golf game at home during lockdown
It might be frustrating not being able to practice your golf at the moment, but you can improve during the lockdown.
Here are my top three tips.
1. Setup position:
Your ball flight is a result of your setup position, not your swing! If you want to return to golf running then start improving your setup, both the actual starting position and it’s routine, how you arrive in your setup position. Leave the swing changes to all the other golfers and leave them rusty.
If you change your setup position, you change the way you swing the golf club; the ball flight has to change as a result.
If you can stand up with a club, then you can improve your setup position. With mobile video technology, you can check for consistency and also repetition.
Can you create the same position repeatedly?
Remember, if you to want to be ‘more consistent’ in shot-making (output) you need to be consistent in your input (your setup.)
This is the only aspect of the game, that every golfer around the world can practice at home. Yet the majority of club/casual golfers barely practice putting, even when they can play? Use this time to develop your putting alignment and stroke. In doing so, you will be developing other areas of your golf game!
You can learn so much by putting at home.
Are you aiming where you think you are aiming? You can also learn distance control far better than on the practice putting green!
3. Staying in the present:
Golf is one stroke at a time, one shot at a time. Learning to stay in the present moment will help you play better golf as you resist thinking about what you might score and learn how to let go of a bad shot or hole.
The present is a gift from life to you, yet golfers prefer to think about what has just happened or what might happen by the end of the round.
Is it any wonder, that golfers fail to play to their potential.
Learn how to focus/concentrate on the shot in hand, and let go of everything happening around you.
If you want to play better golf in 2021, you would be wise to begin developing the three areas above. You can train all of these at home, without making a full swing or hitting balls. The only ball striking would be with your putter.
